Santa Barbara La Fiesta is an enjoyable event, but the stages leave much to be desired. On one stage, bright white folding chairs gleaming in the sun competed brilliantly for attention against the performers. At another, a background of brightly lighted advertising drew attention away from performers who were in shade. (Wouldn't it be nice if we could get away from advertising for a while?) The performers, despite these rude intrusions provided by the stage crew, put on good shows. This young lass, not surprisingly, looks much better off the stage. Here, she is the center of attention, as she should be.
