Broken

The distressed woman remains anonymous. The broken glass supports the woman's mental state. She has nowhere to go (she is facing the edge of the frame rather than leading into the frame). The monochrome presentation mimics her stark situation.

Although this photograph has often been overlooked in competition, it has received a First Place Award.
