His Five String Voice

I heard the band when we got off the train. Not much of a crowd, but the music was good. The lighting was interesting, but very dim. I had fast film (400 ISO) in the camera and made several exposures. No tripod, so I pushed the camera against a wooden post to support 1/15 second exposures. The wide-angle lens was the ticket for placing the musician against his environment and capitalizing on the line of his guitar. Rim lighting on his face, a tip of sparkle in his eye, and the active position of his hands provides mood and story to the photograph.

Do structure, light and line matter? See if your eye doesn't travel up the line of the guitar to the spotlight, then left to the other bright light in the photograph, down the musician's face and on to his right hand, and then once again along the line of the guitar...
