Open Space

This image addresses the wide open grand view, on a small scale. The large expanse of blue speaks of an uncluttered expanse. The power pole confirms man's presence upon the landscape and suggests that the wheat field may be deliberately cultivated. As an incidental—perhaps whimsical—grace note, one wheat stalk rises above the rest to get a better view and see what all the fuss is about.

I enjoy seeing and creating photographs such as this, but they are not my most popular images. This is particularly true in the context of photography competitions, where a quick read and an applied 'set of rules' have greater influence. The problem is not the judges; the pace at which the photographs are reviewed is sufficient only for a visual response, without time for emotional or intellectual considerations.
