2016 Fair Theme: A Fair to Remember

Santa Barbara County Fair ~ 2016

At the Model Railroad Exhibit Portrait of a 4H Girl

Photographs shown below are from the "Northern" Santa Barbara Fair, at Santa Maria Fairpark. I arrived in time to see the 4H exhibitors with pygmy goats at the Frank Marciel Pavilion. Light there was dim, and I wasn't able to get a position that offered a reasonable background for photography. I got one nice photo (at right), but wasn't able to isolate the judging action for a good results.

The Discovery Pavilion was also dim, but there I was able to find good opportunities for photographs that revealed the activities without too much background distraction. The giant bubble kettles held my interest most, with plenty of action and manageable light.

The Midway is always fun for photography. Happy faces, festive kids, and colorful lights offer lots of opportunities. I didn't bring a tripod, but instead relied on high ISO settings to get the photographs. Noisier images, yes, but I'll not be printing any of them so large that the noise would be a problem.
